5 Unexpected Things That Disturb Your Sleep

We all want to get a good night’s sleep, but a few unexpected things could be disturbing your snooze.  Read on to learn how you can get a better night’s sleep with just a few simple adjustments.

Ban electronics from your sleep zone –  You already know that late night web surfing will disturb your sleep, but did you know that any electronics that have a blue glow will impact your sleep?  Scientists have discovered that blue wavelengths have the greatest impact on your circadian rhythm.  Charge your phone and keep other electronics in another room, away from your bed, will help to prevent late night sleep interruption.

Don’t be a hottie! – Bundling up in cozy flannel pj’s, socks, and piling on the blankets may seem like a good idea, but once all that heat gets trapped, it has nowhere to go – and chances are, you’ll wake up drenched in perspiration during the night.  Keep the load a little lighter and you’ll have a better night’s sleep.

Skip the citrus -A soothing cup of tea with lemon might seem like a relaxing before-bed beverage, but it might keep you as awake as a double espresso!  Why? The scent of citrus fruits may boost mental stimulation and energy levels and prevent you from nodding off.

Change your toothpaste – The scent of peppermint is known to stimulate your senses and keep you awake!  Brush before bed with a flavorless toothpaste or baking soda and water.

Wash on warm –  Washing your face with cold water tightens pores, but it also wakes you up.  When washing your face in the evening, rinse with warm water and soon you’ll be drifting off to dreamland!
